|
In BJ's Chalice campaign, the hobo saint Dickie was granted with a Heroic Isle. Initially, the isle is a wide flat terrain with grasses. As time passes, the isle changes into something more.
Being located in the outer planes, the isle is very morphic.
One of my idea is that the isle changes into a stereotypical paradise: thick growths, mountains, clear sky, lakes, etc. Of course, animals too! Celestial animals I say.
I talked with BJ and he has ideas too. We both agree that the isle can act as a "bachelor's pad".
It can also house few NPCs as BJ told me.
Any more ideas? Suggestions?

As the name implies, only those of "heroic" heart must be able to find the isle. Maybe something like the elven Misty Isle.
How 'bout an antimagic field extending 100 ft. outwards from the shores of the isle? No teleportation in, the only way is shown by an angelic guardian/guide that will meet the "heroic" dude. _________________ A little surprising, really...

Wouldn't there be a possibility that a band of heroes would fumble into it? The barrier would have to be tougher... Sounds like the Garden of Eden, though... _________________ Master Wayne, you've just been PWNED! |

Is this island then, a place only accessible to those who are worthy? That would be a tough one to guard... Let's say it's located in a hostile place, a very, very hostile place that even a big baddie would have a tough time going there. There should be a secret passage, which is going in and out of the plane itself, through portals that only one has the key. _________________ Master Wayne, you've just been PWNED! |

Since the island is located somewhere in Celestia, it'll only be very hostile to any presence of evil in that plane. Well, only Saint Dickie has the power to determine his personal island. We can only give ideas. _________________ "I should mug people to this song. I'll get so many silver points." -Random youtuber

Elysium, not Celestia.
And you are right, I have some powers to determine my island. |

Further brainstorming results in the following:
If you'll be employing the antimagic field around the island, then non-epic teleportation will not be able to help as the field denies line of effect. No one "stumbles" into the Heroic Isle; the Isle reveals itself to whomever is worthy.
Another effect can be that leaving the isle erases from the mind all knowledge of the correct path. Returning to the isle would then again involve the guardian.
I don't think it would be overboard to have the entire isle be hallowed ground. _________________ A little surprising, really...

The heroic Isle itself isn't unique, though. It is a group of islands granted to mortals by Elysium itself...
As a reward for the heroic deeds that a mortal has done in his/her lifetime, the plane of absolute goodness grants a hero his ideal paradise, which he/she can shape accordingly. Some heroes, in fact, while bleeding to death from a mortal wound (or, alternatively, while dying of old age), travel to Elysium and do not even experience death. Instead, they are transformed into outsiders whithin the plane itself.
Saint Dickie was unlike most heroes in that, even after being awarded his own heroic Isle, he felt that he is not yet worthy to spend his ideal afterlife. Instead, he quested to defeat the Evils of the Material Plane world more.

The Heroic Isles, also known as the Hills of Avalon or some other do-goody s***, are located on the fourth layer of Elysium. That means that to get there, you have to go through three other layers. Evil creatures will have to go through 3 layers of guardinals, angels just to get to it. All plane shifts to Elysium sends the caster to somewhere on the first layer. (Dickie is an exception to this; he can always Plane Shift to his Heroic Isle)

The isle is morphic according to the Saint's will so all of your sane suggestions are doable. ^__^
How morphic the isle is the question. I think I'm going to talk personally to BJ about that. |

I volunteer my character, the druid Aiuna, to be the Isle's steward. She is after all a denizen of Elysium, and she's also a Holy Hobo.
I shall now post a speech of declaration suited for a Holy Hobo.
"I am Aiuna, the Hope Forgotten, keeper of The Paradise, Shepherd of the Lions of Talisid. I dance to the chorus that is Elysium.
To Talisid and his Companions, I pledge my soul. To *ahem* Saint *ahem* "Dickie" I pledge my loyalty. Pharagos shall hear the songs of the Elysium Thrush, so that the souls of the people will be cleansed, and the land shall once again thrive with life. Great beasts shall once again roam the desecrated earth of Pharagos. I live for Elysium!"
And from her hands she conjures petals of red roses and black tulips. She blows them to the air, and a rain of utmost beauty surrounds the fields. A fragrant aroma wafts through the senses of all that can see her, signaling the coming of a protector of beasts. She dances to the wind, her hair blowing like the great waves of Oceanus. Her celestial lions surround her, fascinated by her eternal grace.
...Seriously, Xtian, your character name is awkward. Still, it makes things fun. _________________ "When I thought I was alone, I found love..." |

With regards to how morphic, I'd say that the Saint's isle is divinely morphic. It is very much attuned to a celestial being like Dickie. He can then alter any part of the isle at will with a thought's speed.
I can imagine the isle this way: As a newly born saint, guardinals are sent to welcome Dickie. Some of them are assigned to monitor the surrounding area for impurities a.k.a. evil beings unwanted by Elysium itself. Leonals are designated as guardians of the Saint. Planetars and Avorals fly over the skies to oversee changes in the growing island. The songs of the Elysium Thrush (Planar Handbook) can be heard throughout the isle.
At the edge of the isle, wild tropical trees not found in the mortal world grow. The great Oceanus surrounds the isle, with crystal blue waters and celestial marine life. Waves touch the sands with a perfect rhythmic pattern. The water is warm to the touch, perfect for a dip. Oceanus is not salty by the isle.
Deeper into the isle lies a great garden where topiary guardians and some lesser celestial beings stay. Celestial nymphs bathe unhindered in the garden's natural pools, whose waters fall directly from the skies of Elysium. Any being can fall to the exceedingly beautiful and perfect garden of the saint. Elysium's entrapping properties covers this area. Additionally, anyone touching the garden's grounds must immediately make will saves or be fascinated.
As a person treads through the garden, he begins to stumble over menhirs placed in a perfect design. The menhirs actually mark a road to the heart of the isle. Careful examination on the menhirs reveal the great deeds of Saint Dickie plus any words of wisdom he has ever said. All of the markings are written in Celestial.
At the heart of the island would be a place similar to a grand pavilion spell, unseen to mortal eyes and to those unwanted to enter unless the saint wills it seen. This place has utmost beauty. Saint Dickie can will the pavilion unseeable through any means short of a wish spell. Not even true seeing or scrying can pierce through the pavilion. A feast similar to the heroes' feast spell is always present inside to accomodate visitors of the saint.
The isle constantly changes and grows as Dickie continues to perform great deeds. Currently, Saint Dickie is on a quest for the Chalice. Should he succeed, the isle will grow large enough to be mapped on Elysium.
What do you think of this write up, BJ? Does it suit your campaign? Hehe... I just wanted to make this write up. _________________ "When I thought I was alone, I found love..." |

Aiuna is always welcome to be a steward in the Saint's Heroic Isle. Bring your friend cat. I'll make sure there is snow so your pet cat can play. I sure hope he's not hunting down Thrushes
I'm still talking with BJ on the limitations of Dickie's powers. |

Hahaha.
Aiuna says:
"I think not. Evil is not utterly destroyed in Elysium, but rather "cleansed" or "renewed". Won't you like that, Drow? Ths Blessed Fields will always accept a soul willing to be cleansed. Not even Lolth can touch you here, for much greater powers have eyes over Elysium."

"Yes, your soul will be cleansed. And when it does, you'll see the light...
Your soul shall be mine, Drow. I shall feed your soul to the great beasts I will send to obliterate Pharagos. MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!...

I am naming the isle "Generosita".
Not counting the celestial animals, there are four inhabitants in the isle, namely:
1. Dickie, the Saint
2. Aiuna Keeper of Paradise
3. The Toymaker
4. Kitty the Defender
AFter some time we can return the kitty to its former form and then become a defender of the isle. The Generosita has snow so it would feel like home, spending time with Aiuna (). It would be flavorful if Kitty would have changeshape ability he can do at will instead. The forms are his normal form and kitty form. You don't want that kitty angry.
Maybe I could burn a low-dc epic spell for that. ^__^ _________________ solbergb on sorcerers:

By the way, o mighty one, would it be too much to ask for a little grove at the corner of the isle surrounded by perpetual darkness? Because, you see, as much as I enjoy the celestials flying, the near proximity to Elysium, and the neighboring Isle of Pelor, I'd have to say I'm really inconvenienced by the complete blindness and all. So, if it please you sir, if you could alter just a little corner of the isle into a dark forest maybe, or perhaps a cave, I'd really appreciate it. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Yes can do sir. You will see the most beautiful darkness that no other darkness can match. Whether it is a little grove or a little cave all darkness are very good to look at that you find it harder and harder to resist and stay on the isle forever. The isle is a very beautiful place. _________________ solbergb on sorcerers:

Is there a temple dedicated to Pelor there? As I am a priest to Pelor, being able to communicate with the Shining One would be a great pleasure indeed. _________________ Master Wayne, you've just been PWNED! |

Well the priest of Pelor can have a temple there. ^__^
But why build a temple there when Pelor's realm is just a dimension door away? Nothing is more glorious than serving your deity directly in his divine realms.
On the other hand, having a partymate who serves a god directly and having the said god's temple in the isle is not a bad idea. _________________ solbergb on sorcerers:
