Awesome trailer. Not familiar with current storyline so I can't so if that was some twist for Karn.
New card is hyper powerful, though I can't say if it will see play. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Ordinarily I'd be tempted to say no, but because we live in a Standard of Artifact accel/RoE mana-producer shenanigans, I think plopping down Elesh Norn won't be a problem.
I'd say if there was ever a time to go White Weenie, this would be it; Elesh Norn shuts down things like Kuldotha Rebirth, RW Bushwhacker, and many many manadorks. In Extended, the potential is even scarier for decks like GW Summoning Trap/Hideaway, as this shuts down Bitterblossom, White Weenie, Mono-Red, Steel Artifact... basically anything that plays creatures will have headaches induced by this card, I'm sure. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. New Phyrexia spoiler.
And now we have Phyrexia mana, basically you either pay the color or 2 life.
Phyrexia Unlife reminds me of 3.5 D&D, where your die at -10 HP, which I think is the effect of the card. (in the form of poison counters)
I don't get though how Karn can 'restart the game', in fluff terms.
Caged Sun is the selfish Power Gauntlet
Urabrask is red's soft control O_O _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

As much as the Legacy format loves cards that cheat mana, most of the previewed cards that have Phyrexian mana seem underwhelming, so far. In limited, it allows you to splash in other colors easily, which is always a good thing.
Phyrexian Unlife is an infect themed Transcendence, though it is cheaper than the original. It goes to show that white is the color for these sort of thing.
Screamwhip is Nightmare Lash as a living weapon.
Phyrexian Canceler is a new one sided Phyrexian Negator. The only deck that can handle its Mana cost would be a mono black deck. The Gate seems like a good legacy deck for this to go into.
Urabrask is just on the top of the mana curve for a red deck wins. It may see some use there. |

@oghma
From how I interpret it, you are still at the risk of losing due to poison. This is because infect deals damage as poison counters and does not reduce your life total.
The best use I see of this card would be in abusing cards with upkeep that requires you to lose life, such as Embargo, Delaying shield, Bitter Blossom, Dark Confidant and so on.
Delaying shield more so, as the damage dealt to you is converted into delay counters and then to life loss, though unpreventable damage has to be dealt with in other ways. |

I just noticed that Hex Parasite can be a planeswalker removal O_O (provided you pay x+2life/black mana, where x is planeswalker's loyalty counters) _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Looks like Wizards has officially introduced Phyrexian Mana on their site.
Surgical Extraction is the type of shenanigans that I expected to happen for this sort of mechanic. It is a slower, counterable extirpate, but it balances out by being almost free to cast.
Being able to cast a spell for free and being able to board this card in, even if you don't play black, means that this card may see some use in legacy. (Especially against combo decks, multicolored decks who employ fetch lands and dredge decks) |

I disagree; I've been thinking of a "Turbo-Karn" deck for a while now, something to pump out a Turn 3 Karn. I'm actually seeing a lot of power in what's been previewed so far, and quite a bit of potential. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

I see a lot for Timmy in this set, but also some good-but-subtle changes. For example, blue is packed with a LOT of usable counterspells, certainly more than in the previous two sets. Infect will see more play I think. Also, possibly a Golems deck? There are enough usable splicers I think.
I'm fairly certain Triumph of the Hordes will be an archetype. Myself, I'd be content to make a Mindcrank + Bloodchief Ascension deck _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Looking at the whole, this set seems fun to play in limited, though there are just some cards that seem to stand out.
Mental Misstep just gave every color in legacy a counterspell. Seeing as there are a lot of good one drops in legacy, I wonder what this would mean for the format.
Beast Within just gave green an uncommon instant speed Vindicate with a near negligible drawback. |
