|
Kalak has fallen, and Tithian is crowned the new king.
His first act: Abolish slavery
Thus, Tyr has become the first free city. But all is not well, because a few hundred miles, the armies of Hamanu are marching, and inside, loyalties are being tested.
The price for freedom is now being paid.
Setting: Dark Sun
Level: 9
Day: Mondays 1pm
Starting Items: 100 Ceramic Pieces (Gold Pieces, basically)
Notes:
- I will implement the inherent bonus system (DMG2)
- It'll won't necessary become a war campaign, depending on what you do of course
- To the Afterblight players who already have their characters, you can export them to Dark Sun (since no one made arcane ones, conveniently), but you have to change it to match Dark Sun's flavor. A little research might be involved, but that will actually benefit you since you will learn about the setting.
- And of course, I'll help you guys on whatever is needed. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

since there are no guns in here, i can't use Kane
I'll think of something, might still go for striker, but my character ideas are as fickle as the waning and waxing of the moon
I think Infi_zero wants to go fighter instead of battlemind though
EDIT: I now remember what character I had in mind before. I'm going for HUMAN. Might go ranger, but I might try a psionic class. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Ok I'm now choosing between playing a monk or a ranger.
@juaberman: btw, what are those races that don't exist in Dark Sun? I don't remember all of them, the only ones I remember are gnomes and orcs.
I'm guessing primal power source is open now. right?
Also, are you banning arcane power source? Or do they have some sort of different mechanic? _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

juaberman has final say of course, but it's not that the arcane power source is not available in Athas. The use of arcane magic just happens to be illegal in most city-states except for templars.
Now Tyr is a special case, in that after Kalak's death, the Veiled Alliance is now allowed to act in the open. People are still suspicious of them, however. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

sorry, but i'm not that familiar with the Dark Sun Setting, especially the 'main' story.
I think juaberman's planning this to be a sort of sequel of your campaign, BJ.
arcane is illegal you say? hmm....

|
Oh, my bad. I forgot to turn on the "noob-friendly" button. >.>
Okay, so arcane magic in Athas draws its energy from the life around them. Traditionally arcanists are preservers, getting just enough power from the plants (and the land) to fuel their spells. However, a number become defilers drunk with power, taking all they can from the land, killng the plants and destroying the possibility for plant life in the local area of spellcasting. That's why most of Athas is an inhabitable wastelend.
Naturally, most people know defiling but come upon the incorrect assumption that all arcanists destroy the land. That is why most people look at arcana in general with distrust. The "divine" sorcerer-kings of each city-state have taken advantage of this fear and have outlawed spellcasting. Which is ironic given that based on their title, you can probably infer that they are arcanists too. Anyway, only the templars (their "priests" - they are "gods" after all) are allowed to use the arcane, and many are indeed sorcerer-king pact warlocks.
So to answer your question, arcane magic is illegal, so naturally there will be underground groups practicing it. In this case, it's a group of preservers known as the Veiled Alliance, called as such because they wear a veil to protect their identities when openly defying the templars.
As such, the best (satirical) explanation is this: The Veiled alliance are "aetheist" hippies with spells and an obssession for veils. They use magic, but hunt down defilers who use it to destroy the land. It just so happens that the most prominent defilers are the sorcerer-kings ("gods").
So if anything will be closed, it will most likely be the divine power source. >.> There are no REAL gods in Athas, and so far, it looks like there never will be any gods present. Weep for the demigod epic destiny. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

human
elf/eladrin (for now they're one and the same)
half-elf
halfling
half-giant (goliath analog)
mul or half-dwarf (imma copy BJ and use half-orc analog)
dwarf
dray (dragonborn but more badass)
ruvoka (genasi, but instead of water, they're silt) _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

I'm thinking of playing a psion in this one, but before that, I may have to ask.
What exactly is the general population's opinions of individuals with psionic abilities?
What is "The Way"? |

|
Psionics is very prevalent in Athas - even a number of everyday, mundane animals have a natural psionic talent. Sometimes "the Way" is synonymous to psionics, though it is commonly used to how some of the rich and powerful call the type of psionics that they learn in schools or monk's monasteries.
Since most creatures are psionic in one form or another, however, there are sentients who are able to focus their mental capabilities without formal training. Though their art is still called the way, they are more often referred to as "wilders." Sometimes known for wanton destruction that they aren't entirely able to control, they are still a lot less likely to be stoned to death upon being discovered, as opposed to arcanists.
I think that's how it works, at least. >.>
ADD: As for meeting Tithian a little too often, that probably means you've met him once. The new king doesn't exactly show up in town meetings, much less meet mercs... even back during his days as a high templar of King Kalak the sorcerer-king, he always deals with mercs through lower-ranking templars that he commands. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

The game is postponed till further notice
Why?
Already accepting the fact that there are only three players left, InfiZero suddenly told me that he's not sure if he can go to the game. Now I understand if he has some personal issues, but after I've worked enough making a good first session, I just can't accept these uncertainties. And less than a week before the game to add.
Sorry, but I don't wanna work my ass off for an uncertainty. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

I second the motion. Making it a weekend would be more alluring, and will probably allow more players to join. Plus longer sessions, if you want to go monthly/bi-monthly games.
But if your schedule is tight these days I wouldn't recommend it. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Sorry about that guys. My issue here is where will I live for this year since I still don't have a dormitory. Knowing my parents, they won't allow me to go to up on Mondays unless I have a permanent place to stay. I can confirm everything by Monday. Oh, and if it is to be moved to weekends, I will totally be not able to join the game.
P.S.: And sorry for saying it only recently. I was confident that I will get accepted to the centennial dorm last Wednesday which due to very bad luck, I wasn't able to secure a slot. _________________ Roses are red, violets are blue. Believe in me, that believes in you

Dude, just a heads up it's mainly for eng'g students if I heard it correctly. And the 20% thing is just a front so that previous student's from eng'g that have taken MA courses from other colleges or secondary courses can live there. One thing I learned in Eng'g in my five years there is not to be believe everything they say. One good example would be the CRS. _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...
