It'll likely cost the same as the other 4e books; Around PhP2000 post-conversion.
It's still a year away, so I can likely save up 4k for both that Campaign Guide and the Player's Guide by then. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

My one big hope with Dark Sun would be having a Dragon King Epic Destiny. Dragonborn are well and good, but actually becoming a dragon? Now that's epic. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

|
I just got The Verdant Passage, which is Book 1 of the Prism Pentad series of DS novels. With this, I will hopefully get a better feel of the campaign Setting, so I can DM/play in it well when the 4E books do come out.
The book has a good enough plot, but I've never been a big fan of Troy Denning's writing style, but he's not exactly a bad writer either (I'll leave Revan to expound on this if he chooses to).
Here are the info that I've collected on Dark Sun 4E:
Note: As DS is still under development, none of these are absolutely final
RACES:
*Dragonborn are converted into Dray
*Thri-kreen will be available complete with four arms, but their extra arms will be "weaker" than their primary arms.
*Mul will be a PC race
CLASSES:
*NO new classes.
*The gladiator will be a fighter build
*The DS rulebooks assume that the divine power source is closed to anyone playing in the setting (yay, dead gods!).
*All classes of the arcane power source will have access to an at-will defiling power that, when cast before a daily attack power, makes it more effective (while potentially damaging allies/plants in the area)
TIMELINE:
*Timeline is reset to just after the death of King Kalak at the hands of Rikus the gladiator, which happens at the end of Verdant Passage (that spoils my reading experience, damn it!). The DM can decide whether or not the rest of the prism Pentad series takes place.
MISC:
*The Campaign Setting book (DSCS) will be for Players and DM's (and just like ECG and FRCG before it, will likely include an adventure that takes characters from level 1-2), the Creature Catalog will be a softcover book, and there will be an adventure path that takes characters from level 2-4.
*The inherent bonus system (from DMG2) will be encouraged to give a low-magic item feel to the setting. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

@Xtian: I actually have a fair chance of doing that, if I put enough effort into it. But I'm lazy.
Update: According to the (pdf) 2010 WotC Summer Catalog, The Creature Catalog will go for $19.95, and the Campaign Setting book sells at the usual $39.95. I think the best way to get these will be through Fully Booked, as they tend to give good rates for the 4E books. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Check out the pre-generated Dark Sun characters from the DDXP, which includes a sorcerer-king pact warlock, a thri-kreen shaman, and a mul barbarian.
Also included are the optional weapon breaking rules (I may adopt this for the Verdant Passage game):
weapon breakage rules wrote: | ...for those that are into this kind of thing. Weapon breakage rules are as follows: if you roll a 1 on an attack with a weapon, you can reroll it. If you’re using a non-metal weapon, it automatically breaks after the attack if you do so. If you’re using a metal weapon, it breaks on a roll of 1-5. |
A notable addition to the character sheets is the concept of a theme. I noticed a gladiator, a veiled alliance, an elemental priest, a templar, and a wilder theme. Each gives an extra encounter power, so these level 1 characters have 2 encounter attacks each (except for the battlemind, which have only 1 due to the augmenting business)
Until I know more details, I'm of the opinion that these themes make a Dark Sun character stronger than your average character. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I think the extra encounter powers are there to compensate the characters' lack of magical items and their powers/abilities.
I like the Sorcerer-King Pact. The mechanic is simple and it has a cool flavor.
I think the Battlemind's Mind Spike class feature power is strong, really strong. It can potentially beat the divine challenge/sanctions' damage. And works best against elites/solos that ignore you. Force AND psychic damage ftw. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

You have a good point, erwin. Although if I would run a Dark Sun game, I would still throw in the occasional magic item. But it'd be nowhere near as often as it would be in a game that follows the parcel system. Indeed, I may be able to disregard the parcel system altogether, and start giving off items whwnever I want to...
REALLY excited for Dark Sun. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Whoah! Sorcerer King Pact, I like.
Regarding the strength of the character in DS back in 3.5 it was not advisable to start at level 1. As per the dark sun campaign setting before, it was advised that characters start at level 3. _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...

Maybe that's just how badass Dark Sun campaign setting is. (says someone who has never played in such setting.)
So maybe instead of making starting characters at Lvl 3, they just pumped up Lvl 1 DS caharacters... _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

|
Starting at level3 was standard even with the 3.5 Dark Sun conversion - Athas is a harsh world, and only those above the ordinary could even survive. this was what the level 3 represented.
In 4E, however, herows are already above the ordinary (with ordinary defined as a level 1 commoner minion), so starting at level 3 as a standard isn't worth that much anymore.
Note that the extra encounter power stays there throughout their careers, so the slight curve in power level will always be there. I suspect that there will also be power-swap feats for the theme to keep them relevant at higher levels, or they could even be enhanced by PPaths.
I believe erwin has the right of it, though; it balances out with the rarity of magic items in the game. I noticed that of all powers, those provided by magic items are what even experienced players tend to forget.
Ultimately, the extra encounter power will make the low-tech experience more interesting, IMO. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I didn't know there was a Dark sun game. Here's the Intro Cinematic of part 2. I think the dragon is Borys, though it could be some other dragon king. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Speaking of Dragon Kings, the most recent Ampersand revealed the stats for Nibenay, the Shadow King, the sorcerer king of the city-state of... you guessed it, Nibenay:
(Of course, very few see him in this true form. Most oftenly he is seen as a handsome and ageless human male)
He's a level 29 elite controller, which makes sense. I suspect other sorcerer-kings to be both above and below this tier, with the dragon himself at around level 33-34 solo. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

That's prbably accurate. Nibenay is like the Graz'zt of Athas. Though this one shouldn't be gay - all of his templars are women, and all are married to him. He's actually effin awesome that way. XD _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Haha! The old 2e games! I remember playing one of them, fighting in the arena and then the sewers, though I can't for the life of me remember if it was the first game or if it was Wake of the Ravager. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

I'm not a big fan of podcasts. I always end up veering away from the page after about half the playtime. That being said, I try to like podcasts, because lots of DnD tidbits can be taken by listening to them.
Anyways, for those of you who do like podcasts, do check out this link.
