Does anyone know or even have a copy of Godannar? It's an old mecha comedy anime with an interesting starting plot, sort of like prologue GL, but w/o Simon becoming a hobo and instead marrying another woman.
If you do have a copy, can I borrow it?
I hope the mecha-guys know this _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Got Paranoia Agent. Just tell me when you're going to UP so I can pass you my copy. Or, I'll just drop it off at the OGM. _________________ I shut my eyes in order to see. |

Oops. Sorry. >_> I was considering if I should've tagged it or not but although a lot was implied...it wasn't quite explicit so I didn't consider it as NSFW. I'm a fix that. _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

OGM sounds good. If you'll be around, can I just borrow it then and then return it to you next time I drop by UP? Maybe Lantern Parade at worst? _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Makoto Shinkai Outlines Next Work
animenewsnetwork wrote: | The new work will be his longest animation film to date, and the story will revolve around one heroine, a cheerful and spirited girl. Shinkai noted that most of his works in the past decade were stories about characters who have to part ways with those they hold dear, but he wants to take that theme further. Through the new heroine, Shinkai is planning to deal more specifically on how to overcome that loss. |

Hurray for Kara no Kyoukai!
Though I think I'm the only one who finished the movies. Sad.
Also, anything interesting in winter 09-10? Aside from Kodomo no Gainax and Seikon no Bewbs? _________________

I was thinking where we could watch UBW movie. Maybe an overnight or something. Hopefully subs will be out a few days after the release, unlike Eva2.0 and KnK _________________

And UBW movie too, of course.
Lol we watch it without subs, I'm guessing you guys can understand it since you've played the game anyways
I'm guessing the subs would be months after the release. Or people wait until the DVD release, which is waaaaay longer. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Well, I would expect TakaJun to translate the UBW movie, seeing as he did TL all of the KnK movies. It did take him and gg a few days to do KnK 7 though. _________________ I shut my eyes in order to see. |

Gasaraki (1998, Sunrise):
I'm so loving this little mecha series. It's a pseudo real-robot series with a great air of conspiracy and real world +10 (as imagined in 1998) verisimilitude to go with it. The art is noting special, but refreshing classic 90's style with a sorta analog feel that I'm beginning to like. Plot and pacing develops relatively slow, as this is a fairly moody, conspiracy-minded series.
Some of the things I'm loving about it:
-Noh. The protagonist, Yushiro Gowa, has a fascinating sideline besides being a prototype mecha test pilot: He's a Noh performer. It gets creepy when it seems that the mecha of the JSSDF Tactical Armor Company are responding to his dancing. And even weirder when it seems that "the dance of Gasara" seems to be able to summon a gravitational singularity. And it gets creepier as the story progresses.
-Newsreels and Geopolitics. Being a conspiratorially themed story, a lot of developments happen on the grand stage of geopolitics, complete with news stories, UN Resolutions, Security Council meetings, wars, press conferences, and war coverage ala Gulf War 1. It adds to the world's realism and integrity that all this does not happen in isolation, but is part of an actual game of plot and counter-plot, even as news pundits expound on what they mistakenly believe is what is really going on.
-Prototype Mecha. The Tactical Armor units being developed by the JSSDF/Gowa Industries and the Symbol cabal are clearly brand-spanking-new prototype machines. This isn't like the Gundam SEED super-weapon prototypes, mind you. Movement is jerky, systems fail, bugs need fixing, everything needs a good amount of wear-proofing, and the pilots and machines are constantly monitored and rebuilt by a dedicated crew of engineers and soldiers. Weaponry is similarly light and experimental. They feel more like western-style "walking tanks" ala-Battletech, rather than the traditionally dextrous machines of the modern mecha genre. These suckers really feel like they would be the first experimental units shambling out of the proving grounds of the world's arms manufacturers.
And the English dub is good. If Yushiro Gowa's English voice dub sounds familiar, it's because he's voiced by Chris Patton, who also dubbed Sosuke Sagara in Full Metal Panic iirc. The voice acting for the character of Yusuke's sister is pretty grating, but all in all the cast does a nice job.
Highly recommended for fans of the Real Robot genre. The art is dated, and though the story is supposed to be set in 2014, it's 2014 as imagined in 1998. That said, the nature of the mecha involved, the conspiracy arcs, and the verisimilitude all combine into a nice package.
EDIT: Opening sequence variety
The OP music is all the same throughout, but as the series progresses, opening videos change on a per-episode basis, with previews of the current and future bits. A small feature that I loved at the same time. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

New shows chart HERE (click this)
Some Promo vids/commercials:
So-Ra-No-Wo-To
Original work, looks like K-on, but isn't probably related. Pretty quality at least.
Ladies vs Butlers!
No relation to Combat Butlers, Fanservice romp slapstick comedy, Kanokon pedigree. 1st ep is out early if anyone wants a peek.
Omamori Himari
Erwin probably has a better opinion than myself on this. Personal opinion, animation looks average to mediocre, light fanservice, supernatural slice of life.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Light novel award-winning, manga experience was good idea bad execution, has a trap, in case that's a lure of some sort(or a ward)
Dance in the Vampire Bund
SHAFT handling such a show, no idea how it'll turn out.
Durarara!!
Japan ate the Ls again. Title refers to the dullahan, headless fairy of Irish lore.
might post more later _________________

OH YEAH I FORGOT AKISORA!!!
XD
Actually watched first ep. Not as risque as I expected it to be but seeing Aki actually move is rather nice. Lol.
Dance in the Vamp Bud allegedly has DFC (from Sankaku). It might be interesting. _________________

I read Omamori Himari (manga) initially for fan service. It revolves around a decent plot, generic but played well, and most of the time it's either romance comedy or shounen fightan mode.
After seeing the trailer, i guess they added moar fan service (as if it didn't have enough), the protagonist looks more pathetic than before, and some of the character designs have change.
I'm probably not gonna watch this, mainly because I'm reading it anyway, I just hope scanlations won't stop.
Is UBW movie pushed back a season? coz I don't see it in the list, and instead has the recap OVA(s) _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

No such news from the sites I browse. I'd imagine the fact that there's no outrage is a sign by itself. Also, here's something interesting I found in the TM site while digging around for info...

just watched 1st ep of Dullalala!! (damned Japs eating their Ls, and yes it is spelled with two exclamation points)
notes:
-VERY nice op and ed. Former has a rock and roll jive while latter has a boy band pop feel.
-opening animation similar to its spiritual predecessor, Baccano! (cast of characters shown, about 15 of them so far, with names embedded beside them)
-pretty good 1st ep. almost all the characters have interacted with other directly or indirectly. so it's pretty much like Baccano! just set in Japan, minus the multiple time lines, and added a headless Irish fairy riding a motorbike and kung-fuing with it. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

Legend of Galactic Heroes.
Damn. I can't believe I've started watching this, but it's looking fantastic just from the first episode. I think I'm going to be addicted. Yey grand space operas! It's like Homeworld: The Animated Series, or something. ) Gods. One episode down, 109 to go. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.
