"Day XVI, Cave Exploration.
It has been 6 days when we have started our search for this godstone. Finally, we have found what we've been looking for. Surprisingly, the size of the stone was unimaginable.
At the moment, I can't contain the excitement. I can't dare to imagine what we can learn from this stone once we bring this back to the academy. At last, I can prove that I don't have any curse on me and the ruckus in the academy will finally halt.
Tomorrow is a big day. We'll be extracting the stone. It seems to have been incorporated with the earth. I just hope that everything goes smoothly.
Day XVII
We started early that day. Everything was going fine. We managed to extract the stone in a few hours. Unfortunately, part of it broke off as we were trying to free it from the earth. I was surprised with what we stumbled upon. Something or someone was trapped inside the stone. It started to move and bright lights were emanating from the stone. With a surge of energy, the stone shattered into millions of fragments and a figure of man stood before us.
The academy's inquistors, scared and ignorant of what was happening, started blasting it with all the arcane spells that they knew. In a few minutes, their lifeless bodies littered the ground. I stood there in shock, I can't believe what was happening. I kept on telling mysellf Maybe I am cursed.
My attention shifted as the strange being started walking towards me. It wielded one of the inquisitors' sword. My hand inched its way towards my implement. If this guy gets any closer, I'll be forced to deal with him. The being suddenly spoke.
Do not dare to reach for your weapon. I have no qualms with you. I do not want anymore bloodshed, mortal. It was them who attacked me first, I just retaliated.....
As the creature was about to explain further, out of nowhere, my friend, Ashion, jumped the mysterious creature from behind. It reacted with brute accuracy and plunged its sword to his chest. His lifeless body fell to the ground.
Listen, I do not seek to do anymore damage here. Let me be. My creator's nemesis goes stronger as every minute passes. I must make haste.
I stood there in shock as the creature kept walking. I couldn't even blink my eyes even for a second. I was in complete disbelief. I fell to my knees.
It took me a couple of minutes to recomposed myself. I took one of the stone's pieces and carried Ashion's body. I run as fast as I could towards the academy. I had no knowing of what awaited me in the academy. "

He's got the funky curse where he always ends up taking his team down. Accidentally.
Guess who used to regularly crit Juaberman's characters with friendly fire? _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

I was under the impression that it was the dice's fault. Besides, even with all the misses, how can a level 1 character slay inquisitors left and rig...

For approval:
Alazlam keeps a piece of the godstone that he came out of. That godstone functions as a detector of the taint. Having the taint means that the blood of the Slayer of Alazlam's god flows through that creature's veins. The godstone can only function with a range of 3. It has no uses for combat but it does glow whenever a person of the taint is within range and glows brighter as the tainted becomes nearer. _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...

Please include your skill modifiers, and remove the unneeded things such as aura, Paragon feats etc.
Regarding your RFA: I am still working on it. I'm thinking of having all aasimar in BT have a godstone "heart", which is something that they carry around wherever they go. In terms of mechanics, it would just be a priceless item that an aasimar can enchant as a divine implement. It would also reflect an aasimar's life, so to speak.
For the record, though, it's not yet done. When I do get the time to work on it, I'll let you know. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Posted: Tue Jul 14, 2009 9:03 pm Post subject: Some Suggestions for Alazlam's Flavor |
|
This is a long time coming, but I've been wanting to address Alazlam's flavor.
*The Dragon god (ask Revan for the title of the deity) was killed by the dragonborn, his creations. They believe they did so out of a sense of duty, and indeed, the god did not resist them when they made their attack. Alazlam may have been an angel during this time, and he could have been away at battle when it occured. It is no longer clear in Alazlam's mind.
*What is clear is that when he found out about it, Alazlam decided to take on the deva's blessing (or curse, depending on one's Point of View), so that he could walk the Dying World from lifetime to lifetime in search of the descendants of those who slew him.
*The quest does not equate to the pursuit of dragonborn extinction, as some radical dragons of the current age pursue at the moment. Rather, Alazlam's godstone only hums whenever a direct descendant of one of those who actually drove spell or steel through the god's scales are present. This is the quest that Alazlam pursues.
*Killing these dragonborn is not an evil act, even if they don't have a clue on why divine vengeance is brought upon them. In essence, you are like the angel of Death of Exodus; it killed the firstborn of Egypt for the sins of the fathers; whether or not they are exemplars of good themselves do not matter.
*That said, this detection trait of your godstone is always up to the DM to decide, it is never within your control. That way, DMs can direct the story in such a way that killing them is part of the story. Talk about your backstory with your DM, and advise them to use this hook as an advantage. Whether or not they take it, at least the option is brought to the table.
*Should you choose to, you can accept this additional backstory that ties in with "The March of Alazlam" campaign arc:
Quote: | Alazlam's most recent mortal life was the one that most unnerved the pious hero. Serving as the paladin of his dead draconic father, the life started like any of his previous others; he hunted down the descendants of those who slew his god.
Things took a turn for the worse when Abaddon, angel of the abyss, posed as the ressurected god of Alazlam. The deception was very clever, and even the wisdom of Alazlam could not see through it. In a moment of weakness, he swore allegiance to the devil...
And felt his soul immediately start to mutate into a rakshasa in the process. Finally realizing that something was wrong, Alazlam lashed out at the fraud. Abaddon, in turn, realized that should he turn into a chaotic rakshasa, then his Faustian trickery will no longer work.
Mighty was Alazlam, but the Archdevil was even ancient; older than the Godfall War. He slew Alazlam before the transformation was complete. he then used the legalities of the pact to claim his soul; and the fiend reanimated Alazlam as a Death Knight.
In undeath, Alazlam was still bound by his oath to slay his god's killers. But that oath was twisted by diabolical will, and he was set loose by his new master upon the whole of the mandrakori race. He made atrocities that Alazlam wouldn't have done in his living form.
Dragonborn died by the tens of thousands before some of their bravest ventured forth and defeated the mighty Alazlam. But in destroying the undead shell, our hero's soul was finally released. And since the evil of his actions were not fully under his control, he did not reanimate as a rakshasa. Rather, he was given one last chance...
While his new body grew in the godstone coffin, he became aware of a simple truth; at the end of this lifetime, he will either finish his quest, or fall and complete the turn into a rakshasa.
At least there are far fewer dragonborn now, thanks to his Death Knight incarnation. There can't be that many descendants left. |
*If you choose to accept this as part of your backstory, I will allow you to take the Brink of Corruption Background from PHB2. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Whoa, that additional fluff actually makes some sense and I like it very much. Thanks, thanks, BJ. Yes, I'd be adding that to alazlam's fluff but flavor wise who should I quote in adding it to the fluff would it a great scholar/historian or a demi-god or etc just to have it all on flavor.... _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...

I'll hand you the creative license; how the point of view is portrayed should be up to you. My suggestion, though, is to write it somewhat biblically. Maybe Alazlam himself wrote a "gospel" in one of his lifetimes, or when he was an angel, even. Alzalam himself may not have read it yet in his current incarnation.

What was your chosen benefit from the background? If the associated skills are Stealth and Intimidate, then you either get a +2 with Stealth, a +2 with Intimidate, Stealth as a class skill, or Intimidate as a class skill.
Please indicate your choice. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |
