Get your own model! This is mine, all mine!
But seriously, this is the type of laptop that I want. And before you say it, I am fully aware that movable LCD's like these are peone to damage. It's all in the care involved in using it, I believe.
I was originally going for a NEO tablet. Same style, but that one relied on bright colors to sell.
Besides, this one has multitouch! Manipulate images with your fingerS! *drool* _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Hahahaha just joking. Cool man! Calm down. I won't be purchasing a tablet until I get a license from my course because I would actually be needing them creating la-out and maps. Hahahahaha if it was a suzuki F650gsxr model then it would be another story. _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...

I just have three issues with the manufacturer specs:
1. AMD processor: Compatibility issues with some *great* software out there. Might even have issues with the built-in OS. I like the Intel i7 better. Actually, I like the new Intel chips better...
2. ATI graphics card: Same as above, but mostly issues with game compatibility. If you're not into gaming, then this ROCKS! Especially if you get 1+ GB models...
3. Windows Vista: Downright SUCKS! One helluva piece a' $|-|!+ if you ask me. When you can, either shift back down to Windows XP SP2, or shift up to Windows 7.
As for the touch-screen functionality, I think I prefer a separate Wacom tablet for that. I've had the opportunity to try out a touch-screen laptop with the rotating screen (it was a classmate's, so i can't remember the model), and I found it too... I dunno... weird? Just my two cents I guess. I'm the type of guy who doesn't want fingerprint smudges all over my screen... _________________ A little surprising, really...

Ah. I was wondering when the discussion would get technical. Thanks for imparting your wisdom, Pitz-Ikko. #1 and #2, in particular, are things that I weren't aware of. So no Blizzard games then? (Then again, I should really keep those big new games on the desktop)
Well, my only real concern is the Adobe Creative Suite. As long as it can run that adequately, then I'm one happy camper.
With regards to #3... Yeah, you're right on that one. I will most likely shift up to this Windows 7 thing, but I have to see it in action first. I'd shift to xp, but as it's beginning to get outdated, I feel like it might be more prudent to get the newer ones.
I don't like vista, but so far I think I can live with it. Still, better change the OS while it's new, yes?
As for the tablet preference: Yeah, I knw what you mean. Chances are, I won't even let people touch it. I'll instead buy a stylus for each of my players. But when I'm alone and reading my pdf's, I think I'll enjoy holding the notebook like I would a book, and using my fingers to turn the page. Awesome.
Still, as this is the laptop thread, and not my laptop thread, I'd want to see if any of you guys have other suggestions when it comes to laptops. What model do you have? What model are you drooling over? _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Meet my Macbook Pro, Luke:
I was initially gonna get just a Macbook, but... I picked up the wrong model. Oh, well...
@BJ: You dun even need the entire Adobe Creative Suite. You basically just use Indesign (for book layouts) and Photoshop (for map making). XD
Stylus pens are expensive. XD Just buy one for yourself and another one for your players to share. XD A stylus can be like P500 per.
2.1GHz can run Photoshop, especially as you just use it for gaming/maps/grids. Stuff like digipainting and high-res artworks need about 2.4GHz (like mine).
4GB RAM is a lot. Mine is just 2GB (Yeah, I haven't upgraded), the reason being, I transfer files to my 120GB desktop, Bluey, and delete the files on Luke.
Why would you play a Blizzard game on a laptop? XD I mean, they're hardcore awesome graphics. Buy a 19" LCD to play 'em! _________________ Expected, really.

I have an HP Pavilion dv5, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 1GBRAM dedicated video card, and 2.xGHz Intel Core2Duo, and I can play Fallout 3 and Gears of War at full settings with no problem.
If you're gonna pull off some crazy Photoshop and/or Illustrator projects, a 2.xGHz dual-core processor is practically the minimum. It'd also be a good idea to get a dedicated external drive as a scratch disk (I use an 80GB portable HD that has nothing in it).
I don't really use a Stylus pen. I just got a Wacom tablet and use the pen that came with it. :p
I've had the opportunity to test a leaked version of Windows 7, and it's absolutely amazing (so far). I wasn't able to use it with many software, but my networking needs were at least met. _________________ A little surprising, really...

My laptop needs a mouse. @_@ A wacom tablet (with a busted pen) is too unwieldy to bring around outside the house.
Man, I'm glad I'm not a gamer. XD As the selection for Mac games are pretty limited. XD
Seems like laptops will go the way of the cellphone. Soon, everybody's gonna have one, and people will start thinking how could we have ever survived without them? _________________ Expected, really.

Your brother has the official beta version. My friend got the leaked version months before the beta release (off +0rr3n+s, of course). I think they released the beta 'coz of the leak. _________________ A little surprising, really...

Windows 7 sound promising. What's important to me is that it should retain the functionality of xp, while being up-to-date, and as a result, be supported.
I dread the day when programs require Vista and higher to run, and hopefully, Windows 7 will offset that fear.

Darnit, I missed the Windows 7 Beta free download!
I wanted to get rid of my Vista. *sigh* Guess I'll have to wait til Windows 7 is actually released. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Darnit. My recent trip to Puerto Galera makes me think getting a netbook is a good idea, as I certainly can't lug around a 15" MBP to a resort. Too unwieldy, and I just want to check my Tiny D&D charac-- err, I mean, my e-mail. _________________ Expected, really.

Did the place have wi-fi? If it did, that's probably an interesting idea. As log as you don't plan to do anything extensive with it. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

It did have wi-fi. Most of the restos and bars in Galera had wi-fi, as long as you order, of course. And I don't really plan on doing any photoshopping on vacation. Maybe at the end of the day, I could unload photos from a digicam to it, I guess.
So, I'm really thinking...
But, a decent netbook will be about the same price (give or take a couple of thousand bucks) as a decent underwater camera... Decisions, decisions... _________________ Expected, really.

Free Laptop Anti-Theft Program!
Of course, it got so popular they overwhelmed the servers. But, seriously, it works. It'll take a picture of the thief, and attempt to email you where your laptop is now, if it ever gets stolen. What more can you want? _________________ Currently Running: NOTHING

Well, a laptop, for one thing.
The financial crisis hurts. I originally projected that I'd have my own laptop by this time. But right now, I'll be lucky if I get one by the time I'm 25.
For what it's worth, it's probably die to the fact that I have high standards in laptops + I'm a sort-of brand-biatch. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |
