Starter:
His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman
-Very cool twist on Milton's Paradise Lost, and makes for a fine reading for young adult literature, sci-fi, and fantasy. There's a movie trilogy in the works, and I sincerely hope they don't mangle it...
Star Wars: Legacy & Knights of the Old Republic comics (Dark Horse)
-These appeal to the star wars fanboy within, as well as exploring the Star Wars galaxy four millenia before the movies (KotOR) and a century after (Legacy). Art and story is okay so far, and it's still fairly easy to jump in at the start of the series.
Ang Mundo Ni Andong Agimat by Arnold Arre
-Folk Catholicism and Filipino Mythology meet FPJ! Mythology Class this ain't! Grittier art style and a more street urban story make this comic a great tribute to the Philippines' agimat myths, Pinoy action movies, and the late great Fernando Poe Jr.

is that new arnold arre novel any good? i saw it, but was turned off cuz it was in tagalog. reading tagalog makes me dizzy. i thought after eden was too mushy (too mushy for my tastes, anyway). although i AM a closet romantic...
moving on...
try reading (or at least skimming) david mack's kabuki: metamorphosis. eye candy, cuz it's PAINTED page after page, and heavily inspired by bill sienkiewicz (yes, the spelling is correct). it's very inspirational, psychological, whatever.
back when we were members of UP-GRAIL *cough*, we had this "bring-comics-to-share" day or something....

I am looking for the book, Two Hearts by Peter S. Beagle. It's the sorta sequel to The Last Unicorn. So if anyone has it....borrow?

Yup. It takes some getting used to if you're stuck thinking in english (like me), but it's really a fun read. There are characters and plot threads here and there that feel like they really need more space in the novel for exploration, but all in all, it's nicely done. Remind me to bring it next week if you want a preview.

Why not? Let's see what we can cook up. Jaykie brings the occasional Sandman anyway, and I'll be packing my SW comics at least until the end of this year.

I do have some witchblade, fathom and ah my goddess manga lying around (sold most of my ah my goddes comics, which i am now regretting), not to mention old x-men, my prized sandman collection and david mack, of course. just to keep things eclectic.
I highly doubt Mon will bring his Spawn collection. Seeing as he wants to keep everything in mint condition.
I still say toys, action figures (be it mcfarlane or whatever) shoud be opened and held.

oooh, comic books! well, most of my stuff is *cough hack illegal hurmh hack*... i.e. i have tons and tons of bootleg comics/manga. heeheehee... standouts in my e-collection right now include completed series of Battle Royale, Hikaru no Go, One Piece, and Death Note. i *used* to have Bleach up to like the latest, but i was forced to delete that and a bunch of Naruto, Eyeshield 21, and yes, Prince of Tennis volumes to free up some disk space. i, erm, i'm not allowed to post the links of where i got 'em (it's against the code of conduct, which, as of this writing, does not exist yet), but anybody interested just send me a PM, i'll lend you the CD's.
i do have some "real" comics, too. my collection of sandman, swamp thing, and AoA X-Men series, as well as "one-ofs" of Fables, Crisis of Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, and assorted stuff by Alan Moore (Watchmen and V for Vendetta). I bought this one awesome vampire manga, Blood Sucker. name is kinda lame, but it's pretty good. not as gory as battle royale, but still nice and gory anyway. too bad i can't find volumes 2 up. >< i also have genshiken up to volume 6. pretty interesting manga about the otaku life, but nothing totally extraordinary.
as for other books, aside from MtG cycle stories, i'm currently reading Storm of Swords, book 3 of the Song of Fire and Ice series. pretty interesting stuff. i, ahh, don't have too many other books, truth be told, but if anyone has any recommended reading, i might check it out, hehehe. XD
oh, and of course, http://www.penny-arcade.com/ is a MUST read webcomic. too funny! older stuff in particular. speaking of which, I actually have their first book, Attack of the Bacon Robots. it's their oldest stuff, but not their best. i think the second book should be much better, but unfortunately i can't track down a copy.

Review of Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat.
Good read. Fast paced (I finished it in an hour) You won't get bored. And good take on Pinoy Pop Culture Superheroes. The names were kinda cheesey (Andong Agimat, Boy Bato, Tonio Baga), but hey, it's recognizably pinoy. Kinda got dizzy reading Tagalog, though, but I stuck it out because the story was okay.
Didn't get why Maria Makiling became blond, though.

Actually, I think they dyed her hair blue? I don't remember clearly, but I think somewhere, the druggie extracting her blood mentioned something about "asul" in relation to her hair, I think.

okay i know prolly nobody reads this, but has anyone here heard of Eyeshield 21? it's a manga about american football. anyway, the latest chapter as of this writing is 216, and the entire thing was a crock. i mean, he caught the ball right, but he landed out of bounds. he got one foot inbounds, the other out. that should count as out of bounds, but nooo... they scored a touchdown! that's not how it works! he needs both feet inbounds, not just one.

Marvel 1602: A really cool Neil Gaiman take on the Marvel Universe four centuries early.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #11: New story arc, with an unusual galactic bank, two clumsy Ithorian bounty hunters, and a character from Zayne Carrick's past. I'll be hauling it along tomorrow.

@Makunouchi: yeah, what Revan said. i've got the hard copies at home; tell me if you wanna borrow one or two.
@Revan: A Feast for Crows is pretty good. It expands on the stories of Jaime, Brienne, Samwell, and *gasp* Cersei. There's a touch of the Starks in there, with a few chapters devoted to Sansa and Arya (a shame, since Arya's story is getting really interesting, although I hear there will be more of her in A Dance with Dragons), and a few chapters devoted to Dorne. I think I still like A Storm of Swords slightly better than Feast, but I haven't finished reading yet. What bugs me is the absence of Tyrion, Daenerys, Jon, and Bran, but as you've mentioned that stuff is gonna be tackled in Dance (which is why I anticipate it even more). Hopefully Dany will cause some serious Targaryen pwnage on Westeros soon, because at this point she's turned into one of the more interesting characters. Oh, and I'm hoping beyond hope that the one character in Dance that is as yet unconfirmed turns out to be Catelyn. XDDD

anyone have a copy of Neil Gaiman's new book Fragile Things? It's not a novel but somewhat like Smoke and Mirrors. A collection of short stories and poems.
And I somewhat mislike Neil Gaiman's novels, except Stardust (and that's borderline fairytale). Sandman is still his best stuff.

that story was somewhat disturbing, though, babycakes was... 
the thing i liked most from smoke and mirrors is snow, glass, apples. i like gaiman's work on sandman by far, of course, although to a lesser extent now that i've read the work of alan moore, whose work has clearly influenced gaiman (who readily admits that fact btw). moore's work is less polished at times, but in a grittier, darker way, which makes it seem that much more fascinating.

Sadly, I didn't start out right. I've read hard copies of Season of Mists and Doll's House before acquiring the scans.
Just finished Preludes and Nocturnes yesterday. I'm still missing a few volumes because my USB couldn't contain all of them at once. The rest that I currently have are Dream Country, Fables and Reflections, A Game of You and World's End.
Hmm, the one that I'm most interested in is The High Cost of Living.
Anyway. Civil War #6 came out some days ago, but I haven't gotten hold of a copy yet. |

ah, yes. snow glass apples. loved that story the best of the collection. Tastings was pretty risque, almost...porn. but artistic porn nonetheless. yikes.

On a tangential note, have you heard anything about a GRR Martin novela/short story called "The Hedge Knight"? Set about a century before "A Game of Thrones." A division of Marvel, the Dabel Brothers, is busy converting it into a comic book series.

i'm planning on writing an adaptation of shakespeare's hamlet, but i'm transposing the story to modern philippines instead of denmark. tapos kaysa king yung erpats ni hamlet, his a provincial governor who gets whacked by his vice governor who also happens to be his cousin in law. very controversial and appropriate.

RA Salvatore, all the way! You just gotta love his devotion to his characters (Drizzt Do'Urden, Bruenor Battlehammer, Catti-Brie, Wulfgar, and so on). Plus, he moves his plots well.
