Since I'm such a noobie DM, I'm still learning the ropes, the tricks of the trade. And since I'm such a power-hungry player, I tend to be very suspicious of my own players. As they say, "like begets love" or sumthin' along that line. Laughing

Anyway, for those DMs and aspiring DMs, I'd like to hear...er, read...about your house rules. Post 'em up!

CHIC'S D&D HOUSE RULES v1.3
Presented herein are the rules - in addition to or modifications of those presented in the Core Rulebooks - that I used for my campaigns in my homebrew, Kat'ha. Any additional rules and material are always subject to my approval/ This is not, by any means, final, as the DM reserves the power to bend and to create rules as he/she deems fit.

32-Point Buy: The players are allotted 32 points with which to buy the six ability scores for their characters.

Flaws: Each PC is allowed to have up to two flaws, corresponding to the addition of two feats. See Unearthed Arcana (UA) for rules on taking flaws. Consult the Dungeon Master (DM) for approval of flaws not presented in the UA.

Start Non-Evil: Characters cannot have the Evil alignment upon creation, although characters can gain the Evil alignment during the course of the game.

Wounds and Vitality Points: Instead of the usual system of hit points used in the PHB, the system of the wounds and vitality points will be employed.

Action Points: The action points system is implemented, with the exception that during level up, the PC loses all remaining action points (if any) and gains a new batch of action points equal to 5 + ½ his/her character level.

Level Up: Characters who have gained enough experience points (XP) to gain a level must rest for 8 hours (or its equivalent, for races who rest in a different fashion) before the level is actually gained.

Patron Deity: Clerics, druids, paladins, and similar classes must choose a patron deity. In the case of druids and similar classes, the player must select a deity with a level of neutrality and any nature-related domain.

Magic Transparency with Other Disciplines: Psionics, incarnum, and other similar disciplines are completely transparent with magic, effects-wise. For example, the null psionics field can affect spells and spell-like abilities just as antimagic field can affect powers and psi-like abilities. However, cross-discipline Knowledge checks and similar checks (Psicraft, Spellcraft, etc.) suffer a -4 penalty.

Sorcerers: Sorcerers get the Eschew Materials feat for free at 1st level.

List of Allowed Sourcebooks: The following is the exhaustive list of sourcebooks automatically allowed in the game, albeit use of any material within these sourcebooks is still subject to DM attention. Any other sourcebook or WotC material is subject to DM approval.
Player’s Handbook
Dungeon Master’s Guide
Monster Manual
Arms and Equipment Guide
Complete Adventurer
Complete Arcane
Complete Divine
Complete Mage
Complete Psionic
Complete Scoundrel

Why, I too am a noob DM. Here are my house rules thus far:

Roll one set of scores, then choose between a second set of stat rolls or 25-point buy: But not both. This more or less encourages players to stick with what they roll (something I can safely say from experience, since not one of my players wanted to take 25-point buy after seeing their first set, even if the results were less than 25 points total).

No flaws, No LA buyoff: Mostly because it's a newbie campaign. The topic of flaws is debatable, I know, but this is what I've stuck with thus far. As for LA buyoff, this is more of my discouraging the use of races with LA, since I figure newbie players will have a hard time handling those.

Action Points: As in the above post's description.

Magic Transparency with Psionics: It may be less flavorful, but it's simpler for me as a DM.

BAB progression via hit die: Different class levels w/ poor, average, and good BAB stack for determining a character's total BAB. For example, normally a Wiz1/Sor1/Rog1/Crc1/Ftr1 would have a BAB of +1, but under this rule the total would be +3 (1/2 of poor BAB HD + 3/4 avg BAB HD + 1x good BAB HD).

Allowed Sourcebooks: All cores, XPH, BoED, BoVD, all Completes, all Races, Dragon Magic, Spell Compendium, both Tomes, both FC's (now inclusive of things like the Pact Insidious, etc.). A bit much, but I want to let players try out some of the new material.

I might have forgotten a few. Admittedly, sometimes I'm forced to come up with rules on the fly. However, once I decide to use a particular rule, I stick with it for the entirety of the campaign.

Xtian's D&D House Rules v. 1.1

Ability score generation.
-->32 point buy system. Alternatively, players can have different method but subject to approval.

Psionics and Magic.
--> psionics and magic are transparent. Meaning antimagic field will nullify psionics and nullpsionics will suppress magic. SR=PR. Globe of invulnerability stops certain power levels and so on.

Books.
Player's Handbook
Player's Handbook 2
Dungeon Master's Guide
Dungeon Master's Guide 2
Monster Manual
Monster Manual 2
Monster Manual 3
Monster Manual 4
Book of Exalted Deeds
Book of Vile Darkness
Complete Adventurer
Complete Arcane
Complete Divine
Complete Mage
Complete Psionic
Complete Scoundrel
Complete Warrior
Deities and Demigods
Draconomicon
Dragon Magic
Dungeon Master's Guide II
Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss
Fiendish Codex II: Tyrants of Hell
Epic Level Handbook
Fiend Folio
Frostburn
Heroes of Horror
Heroes of Battle
Libris Mortis
Lords of Madness
Manual of the Planes
Psionics Handbook (Expanded)
Races of Destiny
Races of Stone
Races of the Dragon
Races of the Wild
Sandstorm
Savage Species
Spell Compendium
Stormwrack
Tome of Battle
Tome of Magic

Materials not listed above are approved on case by case basis.

Flaws.
-->Allowed up to two flaws.

Classes:
-->Clerics must have a patron deity. Alternatively, alignment exemplars are fine.
-->Sorcerers get eschew materials at level 1. They get ignore material components feat at level 21.
-->Level 21 Fighters don't automatically miss on a natural one.
-->Generally, I don't mind having a "christmas lights" basic classes and prestige classes. The flavor should be coherent.

Alignment
--> Whether you believe that alignment must dictate your actions are alignment is the sum of your actions, role-play accodingly. The dm can switch a player's alignment if deemed necessary.

Creatures
--> True Outsiders do not need to breathe.

Gods and Cosmic Entities
-->My demon lords, lord of the nine hells, and other alignment exemplars rival the powers of gods.
-->Gods are easier to kill than alignment exemplars.
-->The stats of my gods are coherent with epic rules.

Critical Fumbles
-->When a character reaches BAB +6, a roll of natural one on an attack roll is an automatic miss but no critical fumbles. A level 20 fighter wielding a weapon he chose with his weapon supremacy is more likely to hit himself than a level one wizard using a spiked chain he's not proficient with? Come one!

Others:
-->It is well understood that infinite loops are not allowed in the game. Remember that greater deities foresee events sixteen weeks before it happens. Every variable in their actions, like divine blast is maximized.
-->Abuse. Powergaming. Character optimization. character optimization and abuse are different terms and concepts. Character optimization is making a character as efficient as possible, but not resorting as to rules flaws and oversights. Powergaming is legal and they thrive by RAW. Powergaming is generally fine but there must be RP flavor behind it. And also, powergamed character does not mean optimized character. Abuse on the other hand is putting a theoretical build on play. No sir, your character can not conjure uranium 239 nor neutronium. No sir your large-sized character cannot carry and throw that castle the moon even if your strength score is capable of doing it. You don't have enough leverage.

Skills Critical Success and Fumbles: A natural 20 on a skill check that results in a success can be considered a Critical Success, with bonuses on the check depending on the situation. On the other hand, a natural 1 on a skill check that fails is a Critical Fumble, which entails dire consequences depending on the situation.
