|
Jiminy McStrings' fondness for the guitar began very early in his life. Growing up in a gang of lowly thieves residing in the forest, Jiminy learned this instrument to pass the time and soon after, he created music about the gang's adventures, misadventures, and even just their everyday life. He would usually play a soft tune before a robbery or a wall shatterning melody whenever they want to party, which is every night. In fact, he loves his guitar so much that he has given it a name, Josephine, in honor of their former gang leader who died because of an unknown sickness. For almost a week he painstakingly modified it by dissambling a crossbow's parts and installing it in the guitar, while at the same time hiding the weapon's presence inside the instrument.
During one their robberies, just as when they were about to secure the loot, he and the gang got ambushed by another gang of thieves. Apparently they were expecting Jiminy and company and now were gonna be killed or worse, taken to the authorities. Fearing for his comrades, Jiminy tried to talk to them and tried to make a bargain. Unknowingly, he started playing his guitar, as if out of instinct, and suddenly he arcane energy flow through his lips, and with that he saved the gang from being dead/arrested.
One night, after performing and drinking at a tavern, he was walking alone and tipsy when he saw what he claims to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Long silver hair, smooth white skin, perfectly shaped pointed ears, and bright green eyes. It was as if she was glowing in the dark, all alone at a place like this. Jiminy then took his guitar and started playing the most romantic song he has ever played. For each note he played, he could feel his heart and soul being thrown at her and at the same time feel see through her very being. For each word he sang fitted perfectly with each other, creating lyrics that could even make gods move. And at the end of his song, the girl looked in his eyes, smiled, and said "Thank you for the wonderful song. Now I must take my leave, seeing as I only stopped here for supplies. Farewell." Jiminy, still heavily under the influence of liquor, understood some of what she said and tried to chase her. "Wait! I don't... know yo...ur name" The woman then turned to approached him, and pressed her lips upon his. Somehow, amidst the kiss, he heard her say, "Do not seek me." And at that he passed out in the middle of the street.
Morning he woke up in his bed, his head hurting from last night. Then he remembered what happened on that night... the girl, that kiss, those final words, and that song he sang... which he couldn't repeat that morning. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember the lyrics nor the melody. All he knows is that it was the greatest song he ever made. However it was not important to him at that moment, for he recalled those words again, and it was at that moment he decided to leave the gang. He explained to the gang what happened to him before he passed out and also why he needs to leave. The gang was reluctant at first, even disbelieving him for they said that maybe it was just the liquor. But then they saw Jiminy's eyes,and within that his determination to find her no matter what, and thus they allowed him to leave.
Now, with Josephine in hand, Jiminy started his journey. To find that girl who didn't want to be found, and to recapture that song that escaped his mind, he is going to do this one strum at a time.

-it counts as a wand for purposes of bard implements and focus for bard rituals
-it's cost is that of both a crossbow and a harp (since it's the closet string instrument to a guitar)
-it fully functions as a crossbow
-it will be enchanted, it counts as either a crossbow or a wand for the purposes of enchantments

I don't follow. If it looks like a gutar/crossbow, shouldn't it function as a guitar and a crossbow rather than a wand and crossbow?
If you want your crossbow function concealed, you would either have to make an abnormally large guitar to fit a crossbow in, or retrofit a hand crossbow into the guitar instead. You see, you need to hide the bow and bowstring of the weapon within the guitar, as I understand it.
Alternatively, you could also design a gutiar that is also obviously a crossbow. That one works better mechanically, I think.

A Lute is closer to a guitar.

I think what we should do for this scenario is to consider it as both a guitar and a crossbow, and design a specific enchantment for a crossbow that allows it to play like a guitar (lute). Perhaps it's level 3+, similar to a pact blade.
For the record, I really like instruments that look like weapons, too.  But we have to think it through better, mechanically.

new version of Josephine:
-built into it is a hand crossbow, instead of crossbow, but he still has to wield it two-handed
-price is equal to a handcrossbow + a lute (34gp)
-it's considered a bard implement and gets mundane enchantments (like kruzco's)
