I've never been in a cosplay. Never saw an actual one or became the cosplayer. Despite this, I really find the idea of cosplaying entertaining.

If given a chance I'd cosplay too.

Who among you folks have cosplayed? Did you make your own costume?

@AAS: What drama? Could you please elaborate?
@princessa: Costume-wise, that'd pretty easy to pull off. XD

I remember seeing Athanasia Kitty at the ToyCon. He was in an over-the-top (in terms of costume quality) Batman mecha costume. It was very cool. Cool

Yes I know. It was really cool. I wonder how long he managed to wear that thing.

>.> Members of the cosplaying community sometimes take the hobby a little too seriously. We're talking betrayal, backstabbing, attention whoring, online sock puppets--the works.

Edit: which reminds me of something that I thought of that summed it up nicely.

Cosplaying is like high school. And everyone's a girl...even the men.

Well, I've been cosplaying for quite some time now. I never made any costumes for myself (I planned on making one but meh let's just say I gave up) and instead just helped out a friend who does make excellent costumes.

@ AAS
Indeed, the cosplaying community does have its 'dark side'. Then again, one could always stay on the lighter side of the fence (or force, whatever).

@ BJ
Thank you for the compliment for the costume. It was made by my friend, and yes, it is indeed very cool. Very Happy

@ Xtian
I wore the Batman costume for about 2 hours. :3 I've gotten used to wearing really heavy costumes. Though my worst experience was wearing a War Machine (not movie version) costume in Power Plant mall. Almost 2 hours OUTDOORS with the neck piece literally cutting through my neck. The blood pact with the costume paid off though.. Got third place. =P

The cosplayers I've known are yeah, backstabbers and very spiteful at that. The target of their ire?

Alodia Gosiengfiao.

Lolz.

There was one very prominent bit of drama not too long ago (I'm too lazy to look up more informative links, but if you want to see the face of the Filipino cosplay fandom, the comments on this blog seem to suggest it's a terrifying thing.)

I'd love to cosplay, but only after a) I get fitter (because what's the point of cosplay if you can't do insanely awesome martial arts in it?!), b) lrn2sew. :3 I know a LOT of people in the cosplay community, mostly through a friend.

I jest, of course. Very Happy I just know that I dislike cosplayers who look sloppy, and I feel in my current state of physical fitness, I'd look pretty sloppy too.

Besides, the characters I tend to want to cosplay are fighting types, and I feel it would be a shame to just stand around with a Zoolander-esque face and staring intensely at a point in the middle distance. Cosplay should be fun!

How did your friend make the mecha costume?

@Knightingale
Do you happen to know any martial art?

Lolz. I just remembered, I DID want to cosplay/audition for the role of Alexandra Trese (I believe an actual black belt degree would help. XD).

But no way am I cutting my hair. XD

Heck no, but there's capoeira in Ateneo/wing chun in Makati, and I'll totally look into those once this sem's over.

@princessa: LOLZ don't forget you'd have to have the 'devil horns' formed by that crazy widow's peak, too! >_>

He got some foam rubber, some cyanoacrylate, some paint, added imagination, hard work, and a little bit of magic then poof! (you could ignore the magic part).

But yeah... Making really big costumes take time and lots and lots of patience. Making curves and other details could be very frustrating.

If there's somewhere I'd do a cosplay and work hard on the costume, it'd be at SDCC as the Baroness. XD

So, anyone with plans of attending a future SDCC?

SDCC does not sound local.

It's not. It's in San Diega, California. Sooo, be prepared to shell out $500 roundtrip for airfare Manila to Calif, $100 for the Tickets, $300 for accommodations (hotels, unless you know someone in the area), $100 for food, and oh, maybe $500 for swag, toys and other goodies. XD

Yeah, I did research. XD

Yiiiiiikes.

ME, ME, MEEEE. Hahahaha. :3333 I've dreamed of going there since forever. Sucks that it'll always be smack in the middle of a semester/work year, though, instead of during a more summery time.

Oh heck naw. XD Thing is, July is summer... in the US of A. TAT Not here, though.

For the same reason, another event I want to go to-- the Edinburgh International Book Festival-- probably isn't something I'll be able to go to for a long, looong time.
